Itinerary

Day 1: Calgary Or Banff, Alberta - This morning you meet with your guide as arranged in Calgary at 8:30am in the airport hotel, or in Banff at 10:30am. At the campgroud (with showers) in the forests of Banff National Park you pitch your tent for the next two days. Now it is time for the first hike along the shores of Minnewanka Lake on one of the many mountain trails. Hiking Time Approx 2 Hours

Day 2: Banff National Park, Alberta - On a full day hike you explore passes above the tree line and alpine meadows, for example 7.5km with 725m gain (4.6mi, 2,414ft) to a small lake and possibly 2km further into the pass at 2,470m (8,225ft). After the hike you might want to relax in the warm sulphur pool or walk down the busy streets of Banff with its many stores and visitors from around the world. Hiking Time Approx 5-7 Hours

Day 3: YOHO National Park/Lake Louise, Alberta - You would not want to miss the picture postcard scenery surrounding Lake Louise. The guide suggests the 3.5km (2mi) path with 400m gain (1,325ft) to the historic St. Agnes Tea House by an alpine lake. Here a network of easy to demanding trails is tempting you to go further and higher, for example the 15km (9.3mi) circuit into the Plain of Six Glaciers or a 2.5km (1.6mi) climb with 515m (1,705ft) gain to a summit with exceptional views of nearby peaks and distant landscapes. Camp for today and tomorrow (with showers) near the alpine village of Lake Louise. Hiking Time Approx 3-5 Hours

Day 4: YOHO National Park/Lake Louise, Alberta - There is an opportunity for a great white water rafting trip on the Kicking Horse River which involves a side trip to Golden in B.C., headquarters for many outdoor adventures, and of course hiking is always an alternative. Among the choice of trails the guide would like to show you is an 18km (11mi) circuit trough two flower decorated passes at 1,830m and 2,180m (6,093ft and 7,250ft) and spectacular views of Emerald Lake. The Natural Bridge, Takakkaw Falls, Spiral Tunnel are other attractions of Yoho National Park. Hiking Time Approx 6 Hours

Day 5: Jasper National Park, BC - Frequent stops and short excursions along the Icefields Parkway on your way into the heart of the Rockies where you will visit famous names like Peyto Lake and Bow Summit. At the Columbia Icefields huge glaciers spawn rivers, which eventually reach three different oceans, and the Saskatchewan Glacier is best viewed from far above after hiking 2.5km to a windy ridge at 2,260 m (7525ft). Camp for the next two days is near the little holiday town of Jasper (with showers). Hiking Time Approx 2 Hours

Day 6: Jasper National Park, BC - So many possibilities; swimming and a picnic at Pyramid Lake, mountain biking, trail rides, canoeing and more. Or join the guide for a side trip to Maligne Lake and an 8km (5mi) loop hike with 460m gain (1,532ft) into the hills above tree line at 2,150 m (7,160 ft) elevation and possibly all the way to a 2,790m (9,290ft) peak overlooking this beautiful lake. Hiking Time Approx 2- 6 Hours

Day 7: Banff or Calgary, AB - Mighty Athabasca Falls count among the attractions of this park. Trails near the Columbia Icefields start at tree line and are especially rewarding thanks to their magnificent views of the glaciers and surrounding ranges. Here you hike is 8km (5mi) with 335m (1,155ft) gain into a pass at 2,375 m (7,980 ft). After lunch is transfer back to Banff or Calgary (possibly in a large, comfortable coach). Arrival in Banff is around 6:30pm, in downtown Calgary is around 9:00pm and at the airport around 9:45pm. Hiking Time Approx 2- 6 Hours
